Reading Improvement

Hello! My name is Kathy Smith. I'm proud to be a Reading Improvement teacher with Platte County since the 2012-13 school year. I have been a teacher since 1994. My first nineteen years were spent in northern Illinois, teaching in PreK through 5th grade classrooms. I found my passion in teaching reading then, and worked to earn my Masters in Reading in 2000. Reading has always been a passion of mine, so moving here and becoming a Reading Improvement teacher was an exciting change. In addition to my Master's degree, I also am a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early Childhood/Generalist. More recently, I earned certification in Multisensory/Dyslexic Reading techniques and practices.

I have two sons, Danny and Ben.  They are in college and high school, so although I'm not as busy as I used to be, it's still never boring at my house. I also have seven chickens; mostly because I'm allergic to dogs and cats, but also because I love animals (and eggs). I enjoy spending my free time gardening (I'm also a Master Gardener), crocheting, reading, walking on nature trails, and taking kickboxing classes at the gym.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
